Sanborn is looking for an Intermediate Natural Resources GIS Analyst / Programmer to provide technical and analytical support in developing and streamlining workflows to prepare and process spatially-explicit datasets for National Forest plan revisions.     • Automating multi-scale analyses (ranging from project to regional scale) of bioclimatic, vegetation, wildlife, socio-economic data, and other natural resource data to support Land Management Plan revisions using Python and other languages within the ESRI software suite.
    • Performing spatial analyses using both vector and raster formats, including use of the Spatial Analyst and 3D Analyst extensions.
    • Producing datasets that can be evaluated using numerous methods, including quantitative and qualitative analyses using field-measured data.
    • Providing oral and written communication to convey complex GIS topics to internal and external audiences with varying levels of GIS comprehension, including how datasets were generated and what underlying assumptions are implicit in GIS analyses.
    • Creating quality documentation and technical reports that will be evaluated for completeness, process flow and references to peer-reviewed literature.
    • Creating and maintaining FGDC-CSDGM compliant metadata.
    • Performing live on-screen presentations to show internal personnel and the public how data sets were created, how to interpret the resultant outputs and present preliminary summary statistics.
    • Developing both static and dynamic quality cartographic products.
    • Developing strategic wildfire management zones, wilderness recommendations, and wild and scenic river evaluations
    • Scheduling and delivering all tasks in a timely manner in order to meet project timelines.
    • Development of ArcGIS Online products may be requested, but no previous experience is required.

    Positions & Duties

    The Department of Public Works is seeking qualified candidates to fill two (2) positions for Senior Systems Applications Programmer (SSAP) as a members of the Technology Services Section.  The current positions are available in the Enterprise Asset Management Group (EAM) and Capital Project Management System (CPMS)/Geographic Information System (GIS) Group. 

    The SSAPs will report to an Information Systems Analyst (ISA). These positions will be responsible to perform programming that supports the development and maintenance of major applications used by the Department of Public Works and city-wide operations.

    The SSAPs help assure that systems meet customer expectations. The ideal candidate(s) must be able to work in a dynamic environment and can effectively perform operational tasks in addition to supporting projects. The positions will function with minimum supervision and must be a critical thinker and effective decision maker in line with the responsibilities and duties detailed below. Written and verbal communication skills are very important since these positions may be a point of contact for internal customer technical support, serve a diverse customer base, and must maintain excellent customer relations.

    Key responsibilities and duties within specific work groups in Public Works may include but are not limited to: 

    EAM Group

    The primary role of the SSAP (EAM) position is to act as a technical assistant, supporting and managing a fully implemented activity based asset management application with an Oracle backend database (FleetFocus by AssetWorks), and supporting all duties necessary for maintaining, supporting, and optimizing systems supporting the Fleet Division.

    This position supports ongoing user training, report creation using tools including Crystal Reports software, user administration, systems support, maintenance, programming efforts, and must maintain excellent customer relations.

    Duties may include operation and implementation of all modules in AssetWorks FleetFocus Fleet Management Software (FleetFocus) application used by the Department of Public Works Fleet Division, while supporting the planning, coordination, and implementation of application upgrades, testing, and resolving production support problems in a prompt and efficient manner, including providing ITD DBA with all Oracle database scripts and structure to implement. Acts as a liaise with AssetWorks on the development of system enhancements to overcome known problems or further fulfill user requirements. Supports QA, testing, and documentation of new releases within the FleetFocus platform. Participates in the development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of hosted and web applications to address the Fleet Division business needs. Coordinates and maintains database objects (tables, views, stored procedures and packages) to support FleetFocus functionality. Creates, edits, and maintains reports using Crystal Reports or reporting services within the FleetFocus platform or other technology supporting the Fleet Division. Communicates effectively orally and in writing to technical and non-technical audience.


    CPMS/GIS Group

    The primary role of the SSAP (CPMS/GIS) position is to perform programming to support the development and maintenance of two enterprise systems:

    1. CPMS - An enterprise application that supports the Department of Public Works and city-wide operations in the management of capital projects.


    2. GIS - A complex system of tools, especially the ArcGIS software stack, and an enterprise database that supports mapping and analysis of city assets (such as streets, sewer storm and water systems, and community centers) and many forms of spatial data (permits, code complaints, construction activities).

    The programming will typically involve, but not be limited to, web front-ends connecting to Oracle or SQL Server databases.

    Duties may include the development of responsive web applications using JavaScript, AngularJS, Bootstrap, HTML, Oracle PL/SQL, CSS, ColdFusion, jQuery and Python. Documenting bugs and enhancements using JIRA, Bitbucket and Git. Maintains existing applications and provides end-user training. Performs end-user support. Prepares and updates end-user and technical documentation. Incumbents assigned to this position may train staff on programming related topics.
