    Job Description
    As an On-Call (Temporary/As-Needed) GIS Analyst you will be responsible for providing GIS technical services for a wide variety of client projects in the areas of natural resource conservation, water resources, land use and transportation planning, and environmental impact assessment.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Bachelors degree in Geography, GIS, environmental sciences, or a related field
    1-3 years of practical experience working in the GIS field (coursework and/or degree may be substituted for experience)
    Hands-on operational experience of ESRI GIS software, including ArcGIS 10.3, Spatial Analyst and Model Builder
    Ability to correctly generate and provide calculations on geospatial and tabular data

    Job Description: Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST) is a highly successful local land trust that protects and cares for open space, farms, and parkland in and around Silicon Valley. The Land Department consists of the Land Transactions team and the Stewardship Team. The Land Transactions team purchases lands from willing sellers or accepts lands by donation and negotiates conservation easements. The Land Stewardship Team manages these lands and easements and fosters relationships with tenants and landowners. Critical to our land conservation mission is the use of maps that communicate the key features of protected lands, those sought for future protection, and those that are currently managed by POST.

    POST is offering a full-time (40 hours per week), three-month internship opportunity in support of its land transaction and stewardship work. The intern will provide GIS mapping and cartographic support to the Land Department, including preparation of maps related to strategic planning, land transactions, and land management. In addition, the intern will provide general office support, including copying, filing, and other administrative tasks. This is a terrific opportunity to gain experience in the local land conservation arena!

    The ideal candidate will:

    Job Description: Join Sanborn’s award-winning team! Sanborn is looking for a GIS Specialist who can provide additional capacity to state and field offices to research, identify and acquire specific data from staff within a state; to develop these data into geospatial layers which conform to defined data standards, are topologically correct and are in accordance with FGDC and BLM metadata standards, and finally, to ensure that all state level data compilations roll up to national views.

    Secondary duties include performing initial Quality Control (QC) on all acquired data as well as on produced geospatial representations of that data and to report on QC issues unresolved, to document via required geospatial metadata as well as via monthly progress reports, and to perform mapping for QC and update briefing purposes.

     These positions all require a solid understanding of the geospatial tools to be used and the ability to follow a designated process, skills and knowledge essentially.

     Primary tools to be used include ArcGIS desktop (ArcMap), Spatial Data Engine (SDE), and other geospatial software components that may vary by state. The GIS Specialist will need to have experience in developing geospatial data and FGDC compliant metadata, resolving data conflicts, performing spatial QC and documenting all work.

     Data priorities, initial mash-ups of geospatial data, methods and strategy will be provided and discussed prior to deployment via orientation.

     Strong communication and organizational skills are imperative to this position. He/she will be required to initiate and complete a variety of work tasks, requiring close coordination with and input from other people (including state and field staff members).

     The GIS Specialist will also provide demonstrations and briefings for state staff on progress and results, as well as with the Colorado staff and technical managers for all aspects of the work.

    The position is located at the BLM Sacramento, CA office. This position may require periodic travel.
    Initial orientation and training will be done in Lakewood, CO for approximately a week. The State-based GIS Specialist will be expected to attend this initial orientation and process/method instruction.

    • Bachelor’s Degree in a directly related field (geography, science, engineering, business or another related field, or equivalent)
    • Three (3) years' experience in the application of GIS techniques to the analysis of natural resource issues.
