Department Overview:

Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. As a whole, Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of PG&E's gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response. PG&E's Gas Operations system is the second largest gas distribution system in the country, consisting of approximately 48,000 miles of mains providing service to approximately 4 million customers. In addition, PG&E Gas Operations manages 6,700 miles of gas transmission pipeline, operates 9 compressor stations, and has 3 operating gas storage facilities

The Distribution Process and Data Conversion organization falls under Gas Operations, Asset Knowledge Management and will provide a technological solution that supports the efficient execution of work through the use of a newly implemented GIS (Pathfinder) for enhanced distribution facility asset data.

• The primary requirement is to execute the Pathfinder project within the identified budget, schedule and while achieving the targeted business benefits initially identified
• Identify and implement required technological solutions to aid in continuous improvements for the use of GIS for the Gas Distribution network
• Ability to interact with gas operations field personnel, mappers, IT and contract employees

Position Summary

The Supervisor of GIS Deployment (Pathfinder) will be responsible for leading the planning and development of work processes and procedures through a team of analysts, in partnership with IT, business process owners, and various teams within Gas Operations. Responsible for planning of the roll out process and sequence, ensuring the work procedures are fully deployed, implemented and maintained. This individual will work in a matrix environment and will need to enlist the support of others to ensure successful deployments. Significant travel at various phases of the project timeline throughout the PG&E service territory is anticipated.

Responsibilities
• Ensures work is completed by team in a timely and professional manner; sets performance expectations and provides guidance and mentoring to staff to help them successfully complete their work;
• Oversee all aspects of development and deployment of work procedures in support of GIS.
• Coordinate deployment planning meetings to document clear/concise steps including the following for each task: projected start and finish dates, resource requirements to complete the deployment, estimated duration, costs, and business benefits.
• Identify and mitigate risks by working collaboratively with others.
• Provide effective communication to all stakeholders to acquire all necessary approvals.
• Utilize standardized processes and procedures to ensure consistency, efficiency and customer satisfaction.
• Independently manage the complete implementation process.
• Track and manage detailed project tasks associated with, but not limited to, development design, support materials, training, etc.
• Ability to think strategically, as well as the ability to implement at a tactical level.
• Work closely with the change management team.
• Contribute toward Gas Safety Excellence goals by improving safety, reliability and affordability for one or more asset families and one or more life cycles

Qualifications

Minimum:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
• 5 years related experience including project planning, scheduling, and deployment of a large project or process.

Desired:
• Proficient PC skills including a proficiency in ESRI and/or ArcFM GIS applications.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong understanding of the gas industry in California combined with strong business supervisory skills.
• Experience in Lean Six Sigma process improvement methodology.

The Department is recruiting to fill a Geographic Systems Specialist I/II (GSS I/II) position to support the GIS Section’s ongoing activities to maintain and enhance GIS production services; and activities to develop technology solutions that will maximize the delivery of City products and services. The individual selected for this position will work primarily in the production group of the GIS Section. Under the direction of a Senior Geographic Systems Specialist, the incumbent will perform the key responsibilities listed below.

Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:

This GSS I/II position will perform GIS mapping/production services and, when directed, application development activities to develop and maintain GIS applications.

-Operate and maintain various types of GIS equipment including workstations, servers and plotters.
-Interpret recorded engineering plans to enter graphic and attribute data into GIS.
-Produce City map books through the use of ArcMap, and MapText or Maplex.
-Create and maintain GIS layers from resources such as engineering plans, assessor’s maps, and discrepancy reports using ArcMap editing tools.
-Improve GIS data quality by conducting research of record drawings and other documents, and performing ad-hoc queries and other methods to identify discrepancies or data quality problems.
-Respond to user requests for GIS data and other information following City protocol and using GIS tools such as FME and automated scripts for data conversion.
-Respond to requests for GIS analysis using various analysis tools and produce maps, charts, graphs, reports, infographics, and presentations as directed.
-Assist with troubleshooting problems encountered in GIS production work including QA/QC.
-Develop workflows and documentation for various GIS tasks.
-Develop GIS products such as maps and other geospatial products as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of training and experience equivalent to:

1. Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Geographic Information Systems, Engineering, Computer Science, Earth or Physical Sciences, Geography, Urban Planning, or a closely related field.

2. Experience: GSS I: None. GSS II: One (1) year of increasingly responsible experience in Geographic Information Systems.

3. Acceptable Substitutions: (GSS I only) Additional two (2) years of directly related work experience may be substituted for up to a maximum of two (2) years of the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Deer Creek GIS mapping specialists provide onsite cartography, data management, networking, and systems support during major wildland fires and other emergency incidents across the American West.

Deer Creek is now accepting applications for GIS Systems Engineers for the 2013 wildfire season. Applicants must reside in CA, OR, or Utah. This is a call-when-needed position, with no guarantee of assignments or minimum term of employment. However, if we do have assignments, we work up 112 hours per week, and you can make good money.

Job Description
Successful applicants will operate Mobile GIS Mapping Support Modules on large wildfires, natural disasters, and other emergencies.

Tasks may include:
* Design and production of map atlases, briefing maps, and other large-format paper map products
* Development of GIS data products, satellite images, and other geospatial data products as requested
* Data management, file backup, GPS data conversions
* Towing generators and trailers, repairing equipment, ordering supplies, completing daily invoices
* Troubleshooting network and satellite internet problems, other IT tasks
* Providing GIS and cartography tech support, DJ'ing, and maintaining a cheerful and positive presence under non-negotiable deadlines.

This job usually requires setting up an enterprise-class computer network in an alfalfa field, fairgrounds, or meadow. Once you have this under control, you'll spend the next week or three meeting Madison Avenue ad-agency-type production deadlines, fixing generators by headlamp, bathing in a converted semi-trailer, and eating tough steaks with inmates in a big circus tent.

We are looking for GIS Gurus that can sleep in the dirt! Expert-level skills with ESRI ArcMap software are required, ArcInfo/GRID analysis experience, Autocad, and Python skills are desirable. If you don't know what a .prj file is, or can't write a world file from scratch, please don't apply. Also, this is a cartography job, so we expect to see a portfolio of your design work.

This job requires deadline-driven-dead-reckoning across choppy GIS seas - a diverse background is required. In addition to solid GIS/IT skills, we need people who can build a computer from parts, change a truck tire, or fix a broken plotter using common household items. Production volumes are high; latenight HP Plotter sweet-talking skills are essential. While a 4 year degree in resource management, geography, or forestry with coursework in GIS or Remote Sensing is preferred, 2 years of production GIS experience are required, and production cartography, large format printing, and design experience is a big plus. Wildfire or forestry experience and current wildfire qualifications are desirable. A large personal library of energetic and tolerable music is a plus.

All candidates will be required to complete a practical GIS skills test as part of the application process in order to assess technical ability.

Availability
Successful applicants must be available for 7 day assignments between June and October. Work is in 16 hour shifts for up to 14 days. Tent camping is required on many assignments, all travel expenses are paid by DCR. We are especially interested in hiring people who can be available on very short notice (within 6-12 hours) between July 15th and September 15th.

The Napa County Department of Planning, Building, and Environmental Services is seeking a qualified intern to assist the County’s GIS Consultant in the maintenance, development and application of the Department’s Geographic Information System (GIS) during the Spring/Summer of 2013.

Duties:
The GIS Intern will be responsible for working directly with the County’s GIS Consultant to maintain and update the environmental, land use, and agricultural datasets that are critical to the County’s planning process. The intern may also be responsible for special mapping projects as needs arise. Specific duties may include:

• Adding and editing features in GIS
• Adding and editing tabular data in GIS
• Maintaining and updating metadata
• Maintaining and updating GIS management records

Qualifications:

• Current or past enrollment in a degree or certificate program in GIS, geography, urban planning, or related field.
• Experience using ESRI ArcGIS software, including ArcMap and ArcCatalog.
• Familiarity with basic GIS concepts, including data creation and management, cartography, metadata creation, and spatial analysis.
• Must be able to work collaboratively with the GIS Consultant and other County Staff, as well as independently.
• The selected intern will be asked to keep a regular (part-time) schedule of office hours.
